The Nerdy Stuff

This is a page to capture all the nerdy aspects of maintaining this project. If you are interested in what this is and why I started it, check out the Origin Story.

AI Transparency

This is a big one for me. When I started this project (March, 2026) AI adoption via ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude is well on the rise. There are plenty of reasons to not want to adopt right now. I'm not a luddite, and I'm very cautious about the impact of AI on society — specifically the degradation of trust and inability to tell what's real.

From a video of a political figure to an email written by your kid's teacher, I think we all want some confidence that we know what we're looking at and can ground it in some truth.

I can't make you believe me, but here's some truth:

  1. I deeply value human writing. I received my B.A. and M.A. in English. I've been trained to write. I'm not the best writer, but I have a deep appreciation for it. Words matter.
  2. Every first draft is written by me. Everything starts in a Notes app, or text editor, with a cup of coffee, and (likely) my kids screaming at each other from the other room while playing Mario Kart.
  3. Claude is a writing partner. I typically pass drafts over to Anthropic's Claude to review for clarity and catch typos and grammar issues. I'll ask pointed questions about certain things read and ask Claude to provide feedback and questions to consider — but never rewrites.

Tech Stack

I use Zed Editor to draft posts. GitHub for version control. Vercel for hosting.

My main laptops are old as dirt (circa 2018) — a Macbook Air running an outdated OS and a Lenovo running Pop!OS.

Both the body and header copy are set in Spectral, designed by Production Type. It's a clean serif font. I was looking for something that reminded me of old magazines
